FCFA 520 Million Allocated for Roads in the South West Region

The Ministry of Public Works has allocated a total of FCFA 520 million to councils in the Southwest region for road rehabilitation and bridge construction, in a bid to improve the region’s road infrastructure.

The beneficiary divisions are Kupe Manenguba, Lebialem, and Fako.

Fako Division Receives FCFA 260 Million

The Tiko, Limbe, and Buea Councils in the Fako Division will share FCFA 260 million. Buea Council received FCFA 65 million to complete the rehabilitation of the road connecting Tole-Bwiyuku village to Wonganga. This will ease transportation of farm produce to urban centers.

Tiko Council was allocated FCFA 130 million to construct a bridge at the Likomba roundabout in phase 1, which will connect the Catholic Church to the Likomba market. This area has been a hotspot for accidents.

Limbe City Council received FCFA 65 million for the reconstruction of the road leading from Chop Farm to Bikolo village.

Lebialem and Kupe Manenguba Allocations

The Alou Council in Lebialem received FCFA 65 million, which will be used for various projects:

  • FCFA 20 million to repair a 2 km road from Letia to Njilap
  • FCFA 18 million to build a bridge
  • FCFA 18 million to build a bridge in Nwametaw
  • FCFA 9 million to build a market access road

Kupe Manenguba was allocated FCFA 195 million. Bangem Council will use FCFA 65 million to construct a farm-to-market road, while Nguti Council will use FCFA 65 million to maintain the road between Etawang and Banyue. Tombel Council used FCFA 65 million to open a new farm-to-market road connecting Ngab and Ndumei-Swene.

This investment in road infrastructure is expected to improve transportation, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and boost economic activity in the Southwest region.
