FCFA 6 Billion to be distributed to state Universities to help fight coronavirus

The funds have been allocated to the ministry of Higher Education through the Covid-19 special Allocation Account to fund the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in higher education institutes.

This amount will be distributed between the 8 state universities, the Cameroon-Congo inter-state University of Sangamalima and other private institutions of Higher Education.

This decision was arrived at during a video conference held between the Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo and the rectors and coordinators of the concerned institutions amongst others. It was agreed during the conference that “Each University will have to have a substantial amount, equity, technical feasibility, and other diplomatic considerations” as reported by the National Bilingual daily newspaper, Cameroon Tribune.

The distribution of funds will take into account several activities to be carried out by these institutions such as disinfection of buildings of the all the universities, the supply of drinking water, hygiene and sanitation materials.

The sum of 2 billion FCFA will equally be allocated to mobile telephone company, CAMTEL by the Ministry of Higher Education for the supply of internet connections and high speed inter-connections by specified fibre optic link to all the state institutions and other higher institutions of learning under consideration.
