In the 2024 FENASSCO League A Games held in Limbe, eight athletes found themselves facing a ban until they graduate from school. The announcement of their suspension came from Prof. Nalova Lyonga, the Minister of Secondary Education, during the closing ceremony at the Limbe Centenary Stadium on Tuesday, April 9.

According to the Minister, these athletes were found to be in violation of the rules by mingling with individuals of the opposite sex within the camps. “Eight students are facing disciplinary action. They will not be allowed to participate in FENASSCO events until they graduate. Nalova has imposed this ban on them for disregarding the rules,” stated the Minister during her address.

Throughout the duration of the games, it was strictly mandated that male and female athletes stay in separate accommodations. However, it appears that some athletes chose to disregard this directive, leading to the subsequent penalties.

The Minister highlighted this breach while presenting a special award to the principal of Saker Baptist College Limbe, an all-girls secondary school. The school was commended for its efforts in ensuring the segregation of male and female athletes.

While some students faced reprimand, others were recognized for their exemplary behavior, particularly for their punctuality.

In addition to addressing disciplinary matters, the Minister declared that this would mark the final FENASSCO participation for the penalized individuals. However, specific regions responsible for allowing such mingling were not disclosed.

The students representing the ten regions convened in Limbe from Tuesday, April 2, until Tuesday, April 9. During their stay, they engaged in various activities, including visits to tourist sites and recreational outings such as swimming at the beaches. Some students also participated in environmental initiatives, joining the Minister in tree-planting exercises aimed at combating deforestation.

The 24th edition of the FENASSCO games unfolded under the theme “School Games: A Guarantee for Peace and Sustainable Development.”
