The African continent will be represented this evening in the ongoing FIFA football jamboree in Qatar.
The Teranga Lions of Senegal will today at 5pm play against the Het Nederlands Elftal (The Dutch Eleven).
This will be the first ever encounter between both teams.
The Dutch hold the record as the unluckiest team in World Cup history as they have played World Cup finals the most without ever winning the tournament (1974, 1978 and 2010). In total, the Netherlands has participated in the World Cup 10 teams.
Her opponent this evening, Senegal, participated in the tournament for the first time in 2002 where they
reached the quarterfinals, and in 2018 when they were knocked out in the group stages.
The Netherlands won their first matches in the last eight opening matches at the Fifa World Cup.
On her part, Senegal won their openers against France in 2002 and against Poland in 2018.
Senegal is participating in the FIFA WORLD CUP at the moment that she is the continent’s ‘eldest daughter’ as she is AFCON’s defending champion.
However, unfortunately, it is Senegal without its emblematic player Sadio Mane that will compete in Qatar due to an injury he incurred.
The absence of Mane could be a challenge to his teammates and Senegalese at large.
At the same time, Senegal’s opponents, like the Netherlands, will be happy not to face one of the world’s best at the moment. They will, therefore, engage Senegal with some psychological composure.
Football pundits say that it will do Senegal good to get a win today in a bid to maximise her chances of ‘sitting’ at the top of Group A or, at least, take the second position considering the fact that team Qatar seems not to be a potential threat.
