Fight against Boko Haram: Chad pulls out 2000 soldiers from Nigeria

Chad has recently taken out some of its soldiers fighting the group Boko Haram insurgents in neighboring Nigeria, redeploying them around Lake Chad.

According to Radio France International, RFI, the move comes following recurrent attacks on Chadian soil by the group.
“In recent weeks, the Nigerian and Chadian shores have been the target of jihadist attacks … and that is undoubtedly the reason why Chad has decided to recall its troops” the media organ noted.

The 2000 members of the Chadian National Army known by the acronym ANT that were part of the the Multinational Joint Task Force that was set up to combat Boko Haram had been operating in Nigeria for close to a year.

While many say the move will likely weaken the joint take force in Nigeria and give the sect room to spread, others believe Chad has the right to prioritize her own Territorial boundaries first.

Many fear that this could signify the regrouping of the sect that had been pushed back after intense fighting. In 2018, Boko Haram was declared defeated in Cameroon soil but many fear the group’s expansion in neighboring nations may subsequently cause them to return.

One of Boko Haram’s most notable actions till date is the kidnap of hundreds of school girls in Chibok, many of whom have not been found to date.
