Fight against separatists: Chief Ewome Eko John rubbishes Fako Chiefs, says they are thieves, greedy, lazy

The traditional ruler of Bwassa village in Buea subdivision in the South West of Cameroon has publicly condemned traditional rulers in Fako division and especially those in Buea subdivision for not collaborating in the fight against separatist fighters.

In a video message, HRH Ewome Eko John popularly known as Chief Moja Moja says, “I have been fighting amba boys from left to right alone. The problem of chiefs in Buea is just to get money from the administration and eat. They don’t want to work. They don’t want to fight against separatists.”

He accuses the chiefs of demanding the sum of 100 million francs CFA from the Senior Divisional Officer of Fako division on the basis that the regional elections were marked by fraud. “Election was perfect. The chiefs are thieves,” he stated in a tone some Cameroonians say is most disrespectful to the custodians of tradition.

On the frequent attacks of traditional rulers in Fako division, Chief Moja Moja holds that it is because of their inability to stand together against amba boys.

Sources in Bwassa village of Chief Ewome Eko John say their traditional ruler has always been at opposing sides with other chiefs based on “…his arrogance and intimidating attitudes “. Chief Moja Moja is equally a soldier working with the Cameroon army in Buea.

In a crisis meeting in Limbe, Tuesday, December 15th, 2020 with traditional rulers of Fako division, the Senior Divisional Officer called on chiefs to reinforce vigilante groups in their villages.

To Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux, chiefs need to build a frank collaboration with security and administrative officials for an effective fight against separatists.

The meeting comes days after the killing of Chief Ikome Emmanuel of Mile 14 and the abduction and subsequent release of the chiefs of Mile 15 and 16 in Buea subdivision.
