Fight against urban disorder: Commercial spots demolished by Yaounde City Council

Commercial spots such as kiosks, beer parlours, and restaurants have been destroyed by the City Council in the Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon.

The demolitions began in the early hours of Wednesday 15 June 2022.

The demolitions reportedly fall in line with the campaign which was initiated in October 2020, by the city council.

It is further reported that the operation saw resistance from some traders while others collaborated.

“What is sure is that we are still going to find something to do but, it is not really easy for us,” a trader said.

The demolition comes after a series of sensitization programs, held by the Yaounde Council against urban disorder.

It should however be noted that the destruction has left many traders stranded, as some depended on their activities in these particular spots, for survival.
