Final-Year Nursing Student Dies in Boyfriend’s Room Under Mysterious Circumstances

A final-year student of the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, 28-year-old Gifty Kyere, has been reported dead after visiting her boyfriend’s residence at Jinijini, in the Berekum West District of Ghana’s Bono Region. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, prompting a police investigation.

According to initial reports, Gifty left her family home on Thursday, May 8, after collecting her school fees and other items. She was later found unconscious and taken to the Jinijini clinic, where she died the following morning.

Boyfriend Missing, Authorities on Alert

The deceased’s boyfriend, 23-year-old Edmond Ayomah, is believed to have been with her at the time of the incident. He reportedly left her at the health facility and has since gone into hiding.

Police say efforts are underway to apprehend Ayomah. In a statement shared with the media, a source from the Ghana Police Service noted, “We have commenced a manhunt for the suspect. We are calling on the public to assist with any information that may lead to his arrest.”

There are reports that Ayomah has made contact with certain individuals, expressing his willingness to surrender. Authorities have not confirmed whether any arrangements have been made.

Family Calls for Justice

Gifty’s father, Pastor Kyere Jonathan of the Agape Evangelical Church in Jinijini, expressed shock over the development. Speaking to local media, he said, “She told us she was going to settle her school issues. We didn’t know she would end up at the young man’s house. It’s hard to believe.”

Pastor Kyere has also called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring clarity to the events that led to his daughter’s death.

Conflicting Accounts

Initial accounts from the suspect reportedly claimed that Gifty suffered an asthma attack. However, preliminary investigations have cast doubt on that explanation. Law enforcement officials are exploring alternative causes of death, including the possibility of a coerced abortion.

A police source familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “We are aware of claims that the deceased may have been pressured into terminating a pregnancy. At this stage, we are awaiting the results of the autopsy to draw any conclusions.”

Postmortem and Ongoing Investigation

Gifty Kyere’s body has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation. “This is a matter of public concern, and we are treating it with the urgency it deserves,” the police source added.

The Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College has not released an official statement at this time.
