The Bishop who was kidnapped today by Ambazonian fighters has been released.
Bishop George Nkuo arrived onboard a motorbike.
Shortly after his kidnapping, priests in Kikaikom, Kumbo mobilised and marched towards the Amba camp where he was being held captive.
The protest move was thwarted after Amba fighters fired gunshots in the air in Nyaro, a locality in Kumbo.
It remains unclear why Amba boys kidnapped the Bishop, but the catholic church in Bui has come under series of attacks recently. The Catholic church is yet to issue an official statement.
This week, Bishop of Kumbo, Msgr. George Nkuo, temporarily closed down St Paul Parish, Kikaikom and taken away the Blessed Sacrament. The decision was motivated by the abduction and release of the Parish Priests. On Tuesday 6 August, 2019, Rev. Diuedonné Bomye was taken from his residence separatists, and held in custody until Saturday August 10, 2019. The assistant Parish Priest was also kidnapped but released on the same day. Rev. Bomye is currently under medical attention from physical and psychological torture.
This may have a huge impact on back-to-school as most private schools are run by the church.
