Fon of Bawok sues for peace, reconciliation in Bali subdivision

By David Atangana

The traditional ruler of Bawok, a village in Mezam Division of the North West region has appealed for peace and reconciliation in Bali subdivision.

HRH Theodore Nana Wanda III made the appeal January 9, 2023 to the Bawok and Bali communities in Foumbot West Region of Cameroon.

Bali and Bawok locals based in Foumbot who are mostly internally displaced paid the traditional ruler a visit at his residence in Kouekong, Bafoussam, where he now resides, due to the ongoing armed conflict in the English-speaking regions.

“This was the visit was the first of it’s kind since the Fon relocated to Bafoussam due to the conflict,” said our source, who added that, Fon Nana rarely returns to the village in Bali for security reasons.

Bali and Bawok have been living in harmony — though a war between both villages fews years back sparked tension and suspicion.

“Right now, the relationship is truly cordial. I’m from Bali and his close neighbour. In fact he is very much appreciated by both the Bali and the Bawok,” said a native of Bali referring to the Fon of Bawok as a man of peace.

“He is a key player of peace,” he added.

Though based in Bafoussam since 2019 partly for professional reasons, the traditional chieftain reports say regularly visits village to commune with his people.
