Coton Sport of Garoua has been crowned Champions of the Cameroon Professional Football League, Elite 1, for the 2020/2021 football season.
The Coton weavers were crowned champions after beating APEJES of Mfou 3-1 at the Douala Japoma Stadium, September 29 in the finals of Elite 1 playoffs.
Pierre Francis Baliang scored from the penalty spot in the first half to give Coton Sport the lead before Marou Souaibou and Tombi Aleni Joel scored at the 51st and 58th minutes respectively to give the cotonites a three goals advantage.
Apejes of Mfou however got a consolation goal late in the game through Gwet Leonard Chatelain.
The victory of Coton Sport of Garoua takes their elite one title bag to 16 Cameroon First Division titles (1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2021).
They replace 2019/2020 Champions, PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda that will be battling against Astres of Douala for a cup of Cameroon glory.
Meanwhile, in the elite two championships, Racing of Bafoussam was crowned champion after their 3-2 victory against OFTA of Kribi.
