Forgotten in Amba captivity by colleagues, Senate gives Mundi hearty welcome in Yaounde

The Cameroon Senate has today received one of its members, Senator Regina Mundi after her ordeal in the hands of separatist fighters.

The 80-year-old politician was abducted by separatist fighters in late April.

A month later, the army announced it had released her in a bloody operation where several separatist fighters were killed.

Separatist fighters on their part acknowledged the release, but said government was drumming up the casualties recorded.

While details of the said operation remain sketchy amidst unverified claims it was not a brutal exchange as claimed by both parties, the Senator is being received in Yaounde.

She was received by the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji and other colleagues who beamed with bright faces upon setting sight on her.

Ironically, for her thirty days in captivity, the Senate remained mute over her whereabouts.

Even when separatists compelled her to make certain utterances to further their cause, the Senate never for once raised a finger in support of her or her driver with whom she was taken.

The situation again brings to mind other officials who have suffered the same fate including the President of the North West House of Chiefs who to date, remains in the unknown.
