Former First Lady to be buried in same grave as husband

Following the death of Cameroon’s very 1st First Lady, Germain Ahidjo, it has now been revealed that her remains will be placed alongside her husband’s at the Muslim cemetery of Yoff, in Dakar Senegal.

According to reliable information on Cameroon-Info.Net, family members of the first lady have already set out for Senegal in order to carryout the burial rights on the former first lady of the Republic of Cameroon.

Germain Ahidjo’s corpse will be placed in the same vault in which former President Ahidjo’s corpse is since his demise in 1989.

Since the demise of late President Ahidjo, there have serious debates about whether to repatriate his corpse back to the country or not, an issue which has never been fancied by the current regime of President Paul Biya.

Many people have equally criticised President Biya’s nonchalant reaction to the news of the passing away of the former first lady, particularly making comparison with his strong outing to the death of the Chadian President, Idriss Deby Itno.

The controversy continues

Since the death of former President Ahmadou Ahidjo in exile, his burial has been a subject for debate.

Many have often stated that being a muslim faithful, he was supposed to be buried as soon as possible after death, thus justifying why he was buried in Senegal.

Others however hold that the late Ahidjo’s status as president transcended his religious state or beliefs, necessitating at least a state burial or funeral in his honour in case where the corpse could not be retrieved.

The Biya regime to which Ahidjo ceded power peaceful in the early 1980s has since his death been mute.

His wife’s death and planned burial in Senegal too once more raises the question of why the Biya regime false to honour the country’s first ever President and now late wife.
