Former team manager of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Jean Paul Akono is at risk of having his leg amputated.
Reports say the former coach suffered a tumor in the lower limb leaving him at the verge of having a stroke.
Jean Paul Akono had to leave hospital, weeks after he was admitted for lack of means to pay for his medical bills.
Government’s support?
Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi today visited Jean Paul Akono.
But no official statement has been made on what assistance the government would offer to Akono.
In the early 2000s, Jean Paul Akono began his career as team coach with the Cameroonian Olympic selection which won its first title at the Sydney Games.
The following year, he took over the reins of the Cameroon team and then coached the Chad team in 2002-2003.
On September 13, 2012, he was again appointed Cameroon coach, replacing Denis Lavagne.
His first match is the final qualifying match for CAN 2013.
