Former Muyuka Hospital Director appeals his 18-year prison sentence for rape

Kingsley Eban was slammed an 18-year sentence for raping his intern

The former Director of Muyuka District Hospital in the Southwest Region, Dr Kingsley Eban, who was handed an 18-year sentence for rape last year, has filed an appeal to the Southwest Court for a second hearing.

The appeal suit was heard at the Court of Appeal in Buea on Wednesday, April 26, and was adjourned to May.

This is coming up six months after the medical doctor pleaded guilty of rape and was sentence to 18 years in prison by the Fako High Court.

He is being detained at the Buea Central Prison.

Eban was convicted of rape and then indecency to a minor, after he reportedly forced himself on an intern in his office on May 21, 2021.

Sally Georgette Ndape is a Buea-based human rights and gender activist who has been tracking the case for two years now.

She and the victim’s family members who testified to the rape say they were satisfied that the court had rendered justice in its ruling on the former Director in October.

Ndape was also in court yesterday to witness the appeal proceedings. She said its left on the Court of Appeal to also let just be done.

“Let’s watch and see if justice is served or not. Some of these medical doctors and hierarchy think they can do things and go free. The fact that Cameroon is the way it is doesn’t mean God doesn’t exist and justice will not prevail,” she said.
