US President Donald Trump is currently under pressure as calls heighten for his impeachment. Even though word had been going on concerning his impeachment before he even became president, it has never been so close.
Despite denying allegations of withholding nearly $400m in military aid to Ukraine and pressuring the country’s president to investigate the son of political rival Joe Biden, critics maintain Trump is unfit for office.
With a Democrat-led official inquiry launched, fears are rife that he may be the First US president to be impeached.
The 45th US president has blasted the inquiry as “witch-hunt garbage” and said he has done nothing wrong.
In the ongoing inquiry former US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch is the latest individual to testify.
US media sources say during the closed-door hearing she said she had “done nothing wrong” but the president wanted her removed.
According to the New York times, Yovanovitch said people associated with Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, “may well have believed that their personal financial ambitions were stymied by our anti-corruption policy in Ukraine.”
Despite the ongoing process, any successful campaign to remove Trump from office will need to persuade Republican senators to vote against a president from their own party.
