Foumbot:
Two kids feared dead as population confronts police over death of inmate

An angry population has reportedly risen against the forces of law and order in the town of Foumbot, in the West Region.

The cause of the uprising is the death in detention of an inmate at the Foumbot main prison after suffering from very poor health.

It is alleged that while the deceased’s health was taking a hit for the worse, calls to seek for medical attention for him were largely unheeded by the prison authorities, who let the inmate die.

The news of his death caused a commotion amongst the population of the town, who then marched up to the prison, collected the body of the deceased and placed it at the middle of the Foumbot – Bafoussam highway, blocking traffic.

An anti protest squad meanwhile has been sent to disperse the angry population and retrieve the body from the road.

Several gunshots have been fired in the air and teargas used to disperse the crowd.

Parents in Foumbot have equally rushed into schools and taken their children back home for safety.

Unconfirmed reports are also reaching us that two kids may have died during the protest after inhaling teargas fired by the security elements.
