The Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo, has announced the dismissal of four soldiers in a move aimed at maintaining the integrity and discipline within the nation’s armed forces.

The decision was made following a serious breach of military conduct that was captured on video.

The soldiers, identified as Njinchout Abana El Jamil (Matricule No. 33225), Njiawouo Isaac Chancel (Matricule No. 33249), Fifen Oussen (Matricule No. T2022/46401), and Nchouwet Patrice Legrand (Matricule No. M2022/46836), were all undergoing training at the Training Center for Non-Commissioned Officers Students Contingent 2022.

They have been dismissed from the defense forces as of June 13, 2024, for “notorious misconduct,” according to the Minister’s release.

The misconduct in question involves the soldier’s participation in a video dated December 23, 2023, where they were seen paying allegiance to the traditional ruler of the Bamouns.

This act was deemed incompatible with the values and duties of the military, highlighting a severe deviation from the expected conduct of soldiers.

In Cameroon, the Commander in Chief of the armed forces is the Head of State, Paul Biya, to whom the entire defense corp must pay allegiance to.

The action underscores the Ministry’s zero-tolerance policy towards any behavior that undermines the institution’s credibility and operational effectiveness.
