France: World’s oldest person, Catholic nun dies at 118

A French Catholic nun, Sister Andre Randon, said to be the oldest woman in the world, has passed away at the age of 118.

Sister Andre was born on February 11, 1904, in Alés, France. She joined Catholicism from Protestantism when she was 19 years old.

According to the Gerontology Research Group, Sister Andre replaced Jane Tanaka of Japan as the World’s oldest person on April 19, 2022, after the latter died at the age of 119.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sister Andre tested positive for COVID-19 but did not display any symptoms. She however revealed that she was in no way scared of the virus.

“I wasn’t scared because I wasn’t scared to die… I’m happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else – join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother,” she said.

Gerontology Research has equally revealed that the World’s oldest person as it stands is a Spain resident by name Maria Branyas Morera, aged 115.
