Frank Edwards disapproves move by fan who walked for 120km to celebrate him

Frank Edwards, a renowned Nigerian gospel singer and music producer, has said it does not make sense that a fan had to risk his life to embark on a 119.4-kilometer walk in his honour.

The fan planned to walk from Abeokuta to Lagos to celebrate the gospel music star.

The walk started on December 13th, 2023, at the Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and was due to end at the Rock Town Studios in Lagos, where Frank Edwards resides.

But Edwards immediately took to social media to express his disapproval of what has now been tagged as a ‘walk-a-thon’.

“In as much as I appreciate you all. I see no reason why anyone will encourage anyone to walk from Abeokuta to Lagos!! It is unhealthy! It is risky!! It is stressful!! What exactly is the reason?” Edwards quizzed.

The topic is under debate on social media. While many are happy with Edwards’ reaction, others think he could encourage his fan by rewarding him.

A user reacted to the singer, saying, “Give him your attention. He needs your attention. Call him. Encourage him. Help him any way you can. God placed you there for a purpose. God bless you and continue to honour you in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

“I guess what he wants is your attention. You can reach out to him, sit down, and talk to him. I mean, have a good time with him, if possible,” Paul Eucharia said.

But Edwards disagrees. “I do not support it… I will not. I have been giving to people here, and they did nothing of such to get favours from me,” Edwards maintained.

Frank Edwards did not end there. “I am not even available. Or are you saying I should fly back to Nigeria to come and wait at the Lagos expressway? It makes no sense!! I don’t want to encourage it and have more people do it, putting their lives in danger. There are better ways to celebrate people!”

Many have also supported Edwards’ decision. “Let’s not encourage this, please. Some people are asking Minister Frank to bless him! How or why? Wealth comes by exchanging value; simply put, what’s the value in trekking such a distance to see someone? What’s his goal or purpose exactly? It’s not like there’s a concert, and he desperately needs to attend but can’t afford TP, then he decides to trek!!! Please,” Khefeo reacted on Instagram.

Since Hilda Baci bravely took on the cooking competition to break the Guiness World Records, dozens of Nigerians have engaged in different attempts. Some of these attempts had dire consequences, with some participants ending up in the hospital.
