French LGBTQ Ambassador cancels trip to Cameroon following government’s warning

Mr Jean Marc-Berthon, the French Ambassador for the promotion of LGBTQ has cancelled his planned trip to Cameroon scheduled for June 27.

News of his potential arrival in the Central Africa Nation sparked a massive wave of anger from Cameroonians on social media. The message from Cameroonians was unanimous and clear, “You are not welcome”.

Cameroon’s minister of external relations equally forwarded a correspondence to the French government, unequivocally pointing that “the question of the sexual orientation of Cameroon’s citizens has never been up for debate.”

Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella said, “homosexuality in Cameroon remains a crime punishable by the penal code.”

The planned trip of the French LGBTQ Ambassador, whose visit to Cameroon aimed at getting the country to soften its stands on the question homosexuality has therefore, been cancelled.

The government has garnered itself some plaudits from Cameroonians on social media for its stern and no nonsense respond to the french government. “For once this government has acted like an entity that has dignity. kudos to Mbella Mbella,” Ngoasong Winnie reacted on Facebook.

“Not all is bad all the times, these guys just gained my respect. We can never let this happen in Cameroon,” Zelio Manfred also applauded.
