French MP Urges France, UN Security Council To Act On Cameroon Now!

French Member of Parliament, Sebastien Nadot has raised the Anglophone Crisis in his country’s National Assembly, seeking to know what plans are in store for Cameroon.

Speaking at the French parliament, Sebastien Nadot reminded the house of the French constitution preamble which states the nation’s belief in human rights.

Explaining the plight of former CRTV GM, Amadou Vamoulke who has been undergoing trial for the last three years, the MP told his peers: “We have a political and moral obligation towards Cameroon”, asking the parliament to intervene for the release of the former CRTV GM, Amadou Vamoulke.

“I want to know what France, a country of human rights and member of the in UN Security Council is doing to ameliorate the deplorable situation [of Vamoulke] as well as the war in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon” he said, likening the killings to a genocide.

Responding to the concerns, France’s Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean Yves Le Drian said France is preoccupied with the situation in Cameroon.

As a result of their action, President Biya, he explained, recently released some political prisoners including Maurice Kamto.

President Paul Biya, the diplomat added, has been carrying out actions to facilitate decentralization and has also granted the conflict hit regions a special status following the major national dialogue in Yaounde.

Through all these, “France has given technical support” he told the French parliament.

Being one of Cameroon’s key partners, France since the escalation of the Anglophone Crisis has come under heavy criticism for backing President Biya’s regime and staying relatively quiet throughout.
