A 9-month-old baby has died in a road accident in Maroua, Far North region of Cameroon.
This tragic incident occurred on the Palar Bridge in Maroua, Cameroon, resulting in the death of a 9-month-old baby.
According to a witness, a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre by the motorcycle driver, which led to a collision with a public works truck, caused the accident.
“Their motorcycle was crossing the “busy bridge” in the city when the driver of the motorcycle made a dangerous overtaking,” said a witness.
He added that” the motorcycle was then violently hit by a public works truck belonging to the French company RAZEL.”
The baby sadly died at the scene, while the mother and the driver suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Maroua.
So far, no official statement has been made by any authorities or the French company expressing condolences or clarifying their perspective on the incident.
Overtaking attempts by motorcycle riders have always been one of the reasons for the numerous accidents on Cameroonian roads. Therefore, the need to sensitise motorcycle riders to the disadvantages of overtaking becomes paramount.
