At least 11 persons are reported dead in a fresh Boko Haram attack in the Far North region. According to local media reports, the deadly attack was carried out in the night of Saturday breaking Sunday August 15 at a military post in the locality of Afade, in Logone and Chari division, near the border with Nigeria.
Mimi Mefo Info gathered that the attack left one soldier dead and others injured. Meanwhile, at least 10 assailants were reportedly killed as soldiers repelled the attack. The attack has reportedly been confirmed by the Far North governor, Midjiyawa Bakari.
“In the night of Saturday breaking Sunday at about 2am, a horde of heavily armed terrorists from the Boko Haram sect, aboard several vehicles, attacked the army command post located in the locality of Afade” the Governor is quoted as haven said.
“There is a soldier who fell on the battlefield and several others were wounded. But about ten members of Boko Haram were killed and others retreated to neighbouring Nigeria,” he further said.
The administrator of the region detailed that the military post and an army vehicle were set on fire while some weapons and ammunition were taken away by the terrorists.
Despite the recent attack, the civil administrator avowed that soldiers remain on high alert throughout the region and beyond the borders in order to prevent possible new assaults by the sect which seems to have recovered from the internal restructuring of its ideology.
Boko Haram attacks targeting Cameroonian military posts have been recurrent in recent weeks in the Far North region.
