Two Yaounde-based clubs crowned Cameroon handball champions

Two handball clubs based in the nation’s political capital Yaounde have emerged as champions of Cameroon for the 2021 season.

FAP men’s handball club and Fondation Anze Nziko obtained their silverwares during the finals of the play-offs which took place at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde. This was on Sunday August 15.

Fondation Anze Nziko also known as FANZ, portrayed determination and resilience during the game that ended 21-18 in their favour. They were victorious over the Police and Army Force, FAP men’s handball team.

The club which last won the championship in 2017, were outstanding all through the play-offs which ran from August 11-15 with their key player, Boubakary backing home the title of top scorer with 16 goals.

Speaking to Mimi Mefo Info, the top scorer expressed delight winning the trophy.
“We have worked very hard to be here and I am satisfied with the results we had. I’m now looking forward to the upcoming international competition” Boubakary stated.

In the women’s category, FAP handball ladies took revenge the defeat of their men’s team by beating their opponent FANZ ladies by 21-18 at the final to top the championship.

The Amazon Fap ladies were brilliant all through the play off and their star player Yotchoum Yasmine topping the score chart with 14 goals.

Both winners of the 53rd edition of the handball championship will represent Cameroon in continental championship expected in some weeks time.
