The Fundong Municipal Council in the Northwest Region has raised close to 8 million francs CFA to rebuild 56 market shops burnt in a fire outbreak last month, Mayor Denis Awoh Ndang has revealed.
He said the money was raised through three avenues: 2 million came from goodwill individuals; 2 million from the Council, and 3.9 million from the Northwest Regional Assembly.
He revealed the information during a session at the Fundong Council chambers on March 11.
He also said the Council expects more funds from individuals and the government.
A fire outbreak in the night of February 2, 2023 ravaged 56 shops and shades at the Fundong market, affecting 78 traders.

The Council opened an emergency fund on February 3, which the Mayor said aimed to rebuild the market and help the victims.
After the recent Council session on Saturday, March 11, Mayor Denis Awoh visited the market area where shops were burnt to evaluate how reconstruction will be done.
