Gabon presidential election: Ali Bongo to face about twenty candidates

The current president of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba will be facing twenty candidates in the upcoming presidential elections.

The Gabonese Elections Center (CGE), has until July 26 to publish the final list of candidates for the presidential election on August 26. The examination of the 27 application files began this Monday, July 17, 2023, reports say.

The Gabon review site however reveals that almost all of the files have already been examined.

“To date, 20 candidates are already sure to take part in the presidential election, their candidacies having been selected since meeting all the requirements” reveals an article recently published on the platform.

The article, however, does not reveal the identity of the candidates already guaranteed to take part in the ballot. The names will be known when the official list is published, says Gabon review.

At 64, Ali Bongo Ondimba intends to run for a third term. The presidential election as well as the local elections will take place on August 25 in Gabon
