The community of Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Ndop is in mourning following the death of their principal, Mbaku Humphrey. News of his passing on Easter Sunday at a hospital in Ebolowa has been met with grief by students and teachers.

According to reports, Mr. Mbaku travelled to Ebolowa for the Easter break and underwent surgery that was unsuccessful. His death has sent shockwaves through the educational sector in the Ngoketunjia Division.

Mr. Mbaku was a well-respected physics teacher with a long career, having previously served at Government High School (GHS) Bamali and GHS Babungo before his appointment as Principal of GBHS Ndop.

Nabi Joel Khumbah, who identified Mr. Mbaku as a close relation, expressed his sorrow online, stating, “My brother, I cannot say a word but am full of tears to mourn you because you were my closest man. How would I start? May your soul rest in peace till we part more.”

Tributes Pour

The news has also prompted wider concerns within the community regarding healthcare. Ndi Novela commented, “Chaiah terrible, unsuccessful what. One is really scared of going to the hospital here these days.”

Dorothy Achey questioned the timing of his passing, writing, “Why not come back quickly to our nice and caring hospital’s in Bamenda? Hmmmm dead, why can’t you wait for him to return back home? R.I.P., bro.”

The impact of Mr. Mbaku’s death on the academic year was noted by Johnny Remon Salack, who said, “Dying at such a crucial time of the academic year? RIP Sir.”

Roger Njebuh Nzembayie remembered Mr. Mbaku in a different context, stating, “Powerful footballer! Farewell my colleague till we meet in eternity.”

Njeck Bridget shared a personal connection to the hospital where Mr. Mbaku passed away, commenting, “That very Ebolowa hospital that killed my brother, weeeh Ni Mbaku we will miss you, brother. May your soul rest in peace.”

Condolences have poured in from various individuals, including Yoyo Dirane, who offered sympathies to the “educational team and family.” Mesue Eba Mesape raised concerns about the recent deaths of principals, asking, “Whats really happening to our principals? Their death toll really on the rise. May God have mercy.”

Drove Himself to Hospital

A particularly poignant reaction came from Sandra Mbaku, who is presumed to be a family member. She wrote, “God!! how can we bear this. Papa drove himself to the hospital and never came back. Gone too soon.”

Shuys Hil acknowledged Mr. Mbaku’s contribution to education, stating, “U will still remain a hero to remember because you imparted knowledge to the youths of Ngoketunjia Division. RIP Principal.”

The passing of Principal Mbaku Humphrey is undoubtedly a significant loss to GBHS Ndop and the wider educational community in the North West region. He is remembered as a dedicated educator who served in various capacities and will be greatly missed.
