Gendarmerie Officer Escapes Lynching After Disrespecting King of Bamoun

A Gendarmerie commander has escaped death after he verbally disrespected Sultan Nabil Mbombo Njoya of Bamoun Kingdom.

The incident is said to have taken place in Malentouen, in the West Region.

According to media reports, the population is said to have been incensed after the said Gendarmerie commander had questioned Sultan Nabil’s authority over his actions.

According to a report on Equinoxe pidgin Facebook page, the officer fell got involved into a verbal tussle with a bike rider who had refused to pay for an amount demanded by the officer.

The bike rider is believed to have plainly told the Gendarmerie commander that the sultan had specifically instructed them not to pay bribes to security men.

In the heat of the argument, the Gendarmerie officer reportedly told off the bike rider, and asked him, what right the Sultan had to tell him what to or not to do.

After leaving the scene, the bike rider reportedly went and mobilised other bike riders who then confronted the Gendarmerie officer.

He was later on brought before the Sultan in his palace, after some fiery confrontations with the angry mob. It equally took the intervention of the West Region Governor for the population to calm down.
