Gendarmes in Ngaoundere have dismantled a notorious gang that had been terrorising bike riders in the city for several years.

The operation, led by senior gendarmerie officer Zale Arnaud, resulted in the arrest of three gang members who specialised in armed robberies targeting bike riders.

The criminals were said to be operating in the ONAREF neighbourhood of Ngaoundere had developed a nearly flawless strategy to carry out their attacks.

The gendarmes disclosed that the robbers disguised in military uniforms, specifically those of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR). They would then hire motorbikes to remote areas.

Once at their destination, they would ambush their victims using knives or pepper spray to incapacitate them before making away with their motorcycles.

Following numerous complaints from their victims, gendarmes launched an operation that led to the initial arrest of one gang member, identified as Aliou.

During this first raid, the gendarmes recovered military uniforms, several knives, and two stolen motorcycles. However, one accomplice managed to escape.

A breakthrough in the case came on the night of March 9, when this second suspect perpetrated another violent attack in a neighbourhood.

His actions put the gendarmes on high alert, leading them to track him down near Mount Ngaoundere, where they recovered stolen goods.

The gendarmes later arrested the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Adjia Jean Paul, at his home, where they found additional military gear.

The gendarmerie revealed that further investigations led to the arrest of a third suspect, who, two months ago, had regained his freedom from prison after serving a three-month sentence for similar crimes.

The three suspects have since confessed to their involvement in multiple attacks and will face the court.
