Ghana has successfully secured their spot at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) after a triumphant 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic in their final group game.

Chris Hughton, took charge of the Black Stars as they faced a setback in Kumasi. Losing this game could have potentially resulted in a humiliating elimination.

Mohammed Kudus equalised the score just before half-time. Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah then sealed the victory with a goal in the 88th minute.

The Central African Republic is greatly disappointed with the outcome, as they entered the match with high hopes of qualifying for AFCON for the first time.

Angola secured the second spot in Group E by earning a 0-0 draw with Madagascar in Lubango.

Several nations, including Cameroon, DR Congo, and The Gambia, will be participating in a series of crucial games until September 12th in order to secure their spot at the tournament.

On Wednesday, Libya and Equatorial Guinea played to a 1-1 draw in a match that had no impact on the standings, as Equatorial Guinea and Tunisia had already secured their qualification from Group J.

The inaugural match of the Cup of Nations is scheduled to be held at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on January 13, 2024.

The final will be held on February 11th.
