The Supreme Court of Ghana has ordered Ghanaian investigative and undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw to appear in court without a mask.
The politically non-aligned journalist known for his specialization in print media and documentary is expected to appear before the court to testify against Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ghanaian banker, lawyer, and former football administrator.
“In March 2022, during Case Management Conference, the High Court 2, criminal division presided over by her ladyship Elfreda Dankyi peremptorily granted an oral application by the prosecution for Anas Aremeyaw Anas to give evidence in camera as a prosecution witness in the case of Republic v Kwesi Nyantakyi and Another, ” reported JoyNews, Ghana-based media.
The Supreme Court however squashed the ruling, ordering the investigative journalist to present himself before the court without his privileges.
According to DW Africa, “Nyantakyi is fighting his case against the controversial journalist in a bid to clear his name after he, with some football officials, were secretly filmed by undercover reporters receiving cash gifts as part of a documentary by Anas.”
The undercover journalist has however reiterated that his appearance before the court without his usual mask will pose a great threat to his life.
