Accra, Ghana – Ghanaian photographer and content creator, Patrick Amenuvor, undertook the ambitious challenge of setting the Guinness World Record for the longest-standing marathon, also known as stand-a-thon by an individual. However, his pursuit, which commenced on January 14, 2024, came to an unexpected halt less than five hours into the record-breaking attempt.

Amenuvor’s endeavour follows in the recent footsteps of other Ghanaians, such as Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, who aimed for the Guinness World Record in the longest individual singing marathon, and Chef Faila’s aspiration to achieve the record for the longest individual cooking marathon.

The marathon, scheduled to continue until Sunday, January 21, 2024, kicked off at the GEM church in Ghana’s North Legon. Amenuvor’s objective was to surpass the existing record for the longest-standing marathon by an individual.

However, his team issued a press statement announcing the abrupt end of the Guinness World Record attempt. The statement revealed that the photographer’s admission of breaking the rules was the driving force behind the decision to stop the “official stand-a-thon.”

“Due to my integrity and desire to win by fair play, I wish to inform all of my intention to stop my official stand-a-thon attempt due to some rules I’ve broken that might sabotage my efforts to break the record,” the statement read.

A statement from Amenuvor’s management team.

Amenuvor’s team expressed their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and stated that the decision to halt the attempt was to ensure a fair and legitimate challenge. The photographer emphasised his dedication to the dream of achieving the Guinness World Record for the longest-standing marathon by an individual.

“At this point, I deem it fit to get back with my team to review our attempt so far and make sure to avoid any errors that may hinder my future attempt. I want to use this opportunity to thank all who have stood with me all this while, and I want to assure all that Patrick Amenuvor’s STAND-A-THON is a dream that I’m not sleeping on. A new date will be communicated via all of my social media pages. Thank you, Ghana, for the support,” the statement concluded.

Amenuvor’s resilience and commitment to rectifying the rule violations indicate that the dream of setting the Guinness World Record for the longest-standing marathon by an individual is still very much alive. The anticipation now lies in the announcement of the new date for the resumption of this remarkable feat.
