Ghanaian singer breaks record for the longest singing marathon

Ghanaian entrepreneur and journalist Afua Asantewaa Aduonum concluded her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon with a resounding crescendo on Friday morning, December 29th. After belting out tunes for a staggering 126 hours and 52 minutes, Asantewaa expressed exhilaration and hope for inspiration, declaring, “It has been a smooth journey and a very successful one, and we hope and believe that this world record-setting effort will be an inspiration for all women, youth, and any individual to come out of their comfort zone and try new opportunities.”

While official verification from Guinness World Record judges is pending, Asantewaa’s vocal feat significantly surpasses the existing record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012. The marathon commenced at midnight on December 24th and was initially scheduled to end on December 27th. However, Asantewaa extended the duration to account for potential deductions by Guinness World Record judges for breaks taken during the attempt.

Addressing a throng of cheering fans and dignitaries gathered at Akwaaba Village after concluding the epic performance, Asantewaa expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support. “So, on behalf of my husband, family, and team, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has taken part in this journey,” she exclaimed, her voice still vibrant despite the marathon effort.

Her journey resonated deeply with many, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was one of the high-profile personalities who graced the event. Asantewaa acknowledged his support, alongside that of numerous artists and celebrities who provided crucial moral encouragement throughout the arduous endeavour.

The young Ghanaian star embarked on her sing-a-thon on December 24th, captivating audiences with hundreds of Ghanaian songs sung back-to-back. Her unwavering spirit and exceptional resilience earned her widespread praise and admiration, as fans and dignitaries applauded her accomplishment.

As the euphoria surrounding Asantewaa’s journey continues, an all-white after-party awaits at Akwaaba Village in celebration of her achievement. However, all eyes remain fixed on the official declaration of the record by Guinness World Record officials.
