GICAM President’s Spokesman Sacked, Reasons Unclear.

By Washira Helene

Nyemb Jacques Jonathan, the spokesman for the Cameroon Employers’ Association (GICAM), has been sacked. The decision was announced in a communique signed by Celestin Tawamba, president of GICAM on Tuesday, July 12, 2023.

The communique did not give any reasons for Nyemb’s dismissal. However, it said that the decision was taken “in accordance with the association’s statutes.” He added that the latter no longer has any rights of speaking on behalf of the organisation.

Nyemb has been the spokesman for GICAM since 2017. He is a lawyer and a former journalist.

The sacking of Nyemb has come as a surprise to many. He is a well-respected figure in the business community and his dismissal is likely to be seen as a blow to GICAM.

The motives for Nyemb’s dismissal are still unclear. However, some observers have speculated that it may be linked to recent disagreements between GICAM and the government.
