Girl allegedly shot by soldiers in Bamenda

A girl was reportedly shot by soldiers at Mile 2 Junction in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon.
A source says the incident happened this morning.

“When I was going to work just this morning, we heard a single gunshot … I thought it was just the military shooting in the air to scare people something like that,” he says.

To his greatest surprise he explains, “… when I approached where the military was mounting control, a girl was lying on the ground with crowds gathered around her.”

He adds that the injured girl was one of many passengers in a bus.

“… The military claimed that they asked the bus driver to stop and he did not, so they shot at the bus to make him stop. Unfortunately, the bullet hit a girl.”

The fate of the said woman remains unknown now as she was rushed to the hospital.

Today’s incident comes at a time when the atmosphere in Bamenda like several other parts of the country is tense following the school shooting in Kumba over the weekend.

This is coupled with protests and increased calls for an end to the Anglophone Crisis that has been ongoing for four years today.
