Girl, mother, village Chief arrested over death of newborn in Far North

A girl whose name we got as Mairamou Amadou has been arrested alongside her mother over the death of a newborn in the Far North region.

The young girl said to be in her 20s is said to have aborted an 8-month pregnancy with the help of her mother.

The incident took place in Guetalé In Kaéle sub division, Diamaré division of the Far North Region.

The discovery was made Monday May 30, 2022.

According to sources, the baby was wrapped in a bag after the abortion was carried out.

The baby was found in à 20 litre water container thrown in the bush.

However those who knew the latter in the neighborhood, later began asking questions which were finally answered at the end of the day.

Innformed, the territorial brigade of Kaélé, alongside an intelligence system set up by chief warrant officer, Abakachi Saidu, arrived at the scene.

It actually took a visit to Mairamou’s family, to realize that her own mother was accomplice in the abortion of the pregnancy.

“I and my elements went down to the field, to carry out in-depth investigations” Said the Brigade Commander

“How can a girl commit such a crime with the complicity of her mother, the one who is supposed to give advice to her daughter” said a neighbor.

All those involved were arrested, including a village Chief who also allegedly received a sum of 40,000 FCFA to hide the information.

The accomplices in the said case have been presented to the district attorney of Mayo Kani.

Meanwhile, the body of the newborn was handed over to the health service for burial.
