Godisz Fungwa, also known as Richard, has launched his own movie production company after a successful career as a skit maker and actor since 2015, earning multiple awards along the way. This new venture aims to address taboo subjects, important social issues, and comedy, with the hope of bringing African stories in general, and Cameroonian stories in particular, to a global audience. Fungwa announced the launch on his Facebook page.
Currently, Godisz Fungwa has 188,000 followers on Facebook and 258,000 subscribers on YouTube. His YouTube page, initially a platform for his comedy skits, will now expand into a movie production company focused on African narratives and social issues.
This move is innovative for Cameroon, where movie producers have yet to fully exploit the potential of YouTube. Fungwa’s initiative promises to inject new energy into the Cameroonian movie industry.
Reflecting on his journey, Fungwa shared on Facebook, “Some years back I made the tough decision to be an actor in an African home where every parent expects their children to be a doctor or lawyer to make them proud. Fast forward to 2020, after working both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, I won Best Actor at Festival Ecrans Noirs and Abuja International Film Festival, starring in some of Cameroon’s must-watch movies like ‘Saving Mbango’, ‘The Fisherman’s Diary’, ‘Nganu’, ‘Ewusu’, and more.”
Fungwa believes his experiences and awards have equipped him to mentor others. “Please join me on this journey as we promise to give you NOTHING SHORT OF PREMIUM ENTERTAINMENT,” he urged his followers.
Notably, Mbeng Lilian, also known as Caro of Caro and Copees, launched her movie production channel a few weeks ago. This trend indicates that the Cameroonian movie industry is continually evolving and improving.
