Government disburses FCFA 6.3 billion for completion works at Olembe Stadium

The Maguil Construction company charged with completing works at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde has already been provided the sum of FCFA 6.3 billion by the State of Cameroon.

The financial disbursement is intended to speed up completion works.

The money, amongst other things, will be used to pay the subcontractors working at the stadium, as well as over 540 workers as revealed by Sports Minister Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.

The company in charge of completing the project has been charged by Minister Mouelle Kombi to do their utmost best and even work overtime if necessary, so as to deliver the project before the November 2021 deadline.

Taking into consideration the fact that the stadium will have to be used to host AFCON 2022, the minister is bent on avoiding the mistakes which made CAF withdraw hosting rights from Cameroon for the AFCON 2019 tournament.

The project however has taken more time than expected to be completed, and Cameroonians too have lambasted state authorities for the huge amounts of money that have been spent to construct the stadium.
Many are of the opinion that the prices and costs of construction have been grossly inflated by those in charge.
