Government Propagandist Confirms Fabricating Bamenda Taxi Policy

A notorious pro-government propagandist, Nkonda Titus, also known by his online alias MKPD, has claimed responsibility for the controversial “Taxi Colour Change” policy implemented in Bamenda. The policy, which demanded taxi drivers switch their vehicles from the traditional yellow to the blue and white colours of the Ambazonia separatist flag, resulted in violence and civilian casualties.

MKPD’s video confession adds to a long list of targeted killings that he and his cohorts have orchestrated through the conflict. In the video, he proudly belittles separatist leaders, particularly Ayaba Cho Lucas, for taking credit for the policy. This, according to MKPD, proves his ability to manipulate the separatists.

However, another video has emerged featuring Ayaba Cho denying any role in initiating the policy. Cho claims it originated with fighters on the ground, a statement corroborated by Martin Tumasang, another separatist figure, during a live program with Chris Anu. Tumasang further emphasised that the policy wasn’t initiated by the Ambazonia leadership in the diaspora because the fighters were cognizant of the infighting among the leaders.

MKPD’s confession holds significant weight for the wrong reasons. Firstly, it exposes the vulnerability of the Ambazonia movement to manipulation by the very government they oppose. Secondly, it confirms MKPD’s role in inciting violence that led to the deaths of innocent taxi drivers and the destruction of their property. This implies that the government, which has been criticising the policy and separatists, needs to look at the fact that it was indeed orchestrated by one of theirs.

Thirdly, the incident highlights the growing disconnect between Ambazonia fighters and their exiled leaders. Finally, MKPD’s actions fuel suspicion of collusion between certain elements within the Cameroonian government and separatists, potentially hindering efforts to resolve the conflict.

Most concerning is the apparent lack of understanding from both sides regarding the plight of ordinary civilians caught in the crossfire. The “Taxi Colour Change” policy exemplifies this disregard for human life, and emphasises the public demands for accountability from those who orchestrated this violence.
