Government rift broadens as Anglophone crisis persists – West Africa Newsletter

With the Anglophone crisis running for over three years today, the secretary General at the presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh the West Africa newsletter explains may be on borrowed time.

Highlighting Ngoh Ngoh’s “fall from favour” because of his “stance diametrically opposed” to that of other top state officials including Biya’s chief of staff and nephew, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, the newsletter reveals that the divide is getting wider by the day.

Ngoh Ngoh the newsletter notes has “fallen all the harder since he has only one staunch supporter in the state apparatus: First Lady Chantal Biya. It was she who demanded his appointment in 2012 in exchange for her returning to Cameroon from a six month sojourn in Paris.”

Ayolo on his part, “Is prepared to cooperate with the moderate Anglophone leaders with whom the government reached an agreement … His stance is supported by the minister for Decentralization and Regional Development , Paul Atanga Nji and several of Paul Biya’s security advisers” it reads.

The newsletter goes on to predict a shift in business dynamics including a better working relationship between Ayolo and finance minister Louis Paul Motaze on one hand and the Bollore group on the other.
