Though he has not been invited for the ongoing National Dialogue, National Reforme Party president, Barrister Agbor Ashu has said the government should not be afraid, to discuss the issue of secession.

In a letter addressed to PM Dion Ngute, the Barrister added that the ideal form of state should be a confederation.

“If we have to remain reasonable men consonant with the rules and principles of constitutional and international law, then Your Excellency will agree with us that the only form a union of 2 independent states can take is a confederation” he stated.

Barrister Ashu also called highlighted the need for political transition, and the resolution of legal issues. “Let us seize this opportunity to right the wrongs of 1961 by signing Union Treaty” he noted.

“Your Excellency, not discussing secession gives the impression that your government either has something to hide or is afraid of the expression of popular will” he added.

Some delegates to the ongoing dialogue it should be said have already started walking out, with their principal reason being the refusal to discuss the form of state.
