A 17-year-old boy called Stanley has been reportedly killed by government soldiers in Ngwah village. Ngwah village is located in Fundong, Boyo Division of Cameroon’s restive North West Region.

Persons who claimed to be aggrieved relatives explained to Mimi Mefo Info (MMI) that Stanley was running errands for his parents when he was shot. “He was sent by his parents to sell beans and was killed by the Cameroon military,” a relative told MMI.

Our source, who opted for anonymity, added, “The military picked him up from the market square where he was selling beans. They came and rounded up everyone selling at the market, including him, but the others paid the 10,000frs (about 15 USD); only Stanley did not pay.”

Our source also said that Stanley could not afford the amount demanded by the government soldiers, which is why he was killed.

A video that has now been shared with MMI showed that Stanley died of knife stabs. A man is heard in the video blaming the soldiers for the killing, in front of a crowd in the village. You can watch the video on our Telegram page.

Attempts to get parents of the victim to corroborate the story were futile.

Though government soldiers have been accused of killings in the past, official channels for getting reactions to such incidents are unavailable.

While Stanley’s body has been laid to rest, there has been widespread condemnation of the killing, which has also been connected to the same in Ngarbuh, Menka, and Manyu and other parts of the Anglophone regions.
