The lawyer of Samuel Wazizi has expressed fears that his life may be in danger. In a report on death threats he’s getting, government is warned against laying a finger on Barrister Edward Lyonga Ewule.
Barrister Lyonga “will not and should not be next on your hit list,” Barrister Ignatius Ovat tells government.
Calling on the state and non-state agents, he says it is of utmost importance “to give protection and cooperation to not only Edward Lyonga Ewule Esq. but also to local and international press organisations, journalists, civil society organisations.”
This, he says, will create a favourable atmosphere “to logically determine the events that led to the abduction and alleged extra-judicial killing of Wazizi.”
“For all intent and purpose, consider this public communiqué a pre-action protocol should you fail and/or neglect to ensure the safety and protection of Edward Lyonga,” Barrister Ignatius Ovat adds.
It should be recalled that before government announced the death of Wazizi, his lawyer had hinted that he was warned to stay off the case for his own safety.
Many await government’s next move after French ambassador to Cameroon said President Biya had promised an investigation into the pressman’s death.
