Gov’t Inaugurates Construction of Cameroon’s tallest building

The government of Cameroon, through Prime Minister Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, has launched the project to construct a 108-metre-tall hotel which will be the country’s tallest infrastructure on completion.
The project to construct the five-star hotel, already named Hotel du Lac, will also be Central Africa’s largest project at the time.

The gigantic structure to mounted in the heart of Yaounde, Chief Dr Dion Ngute says, will be a first-class touristic resort in Cameroon and will become the third five-star hotel in the country after Hilton in Yaounde and WDC Apart hotel in Buea.

The project expected to cost over FCFA 80 Billion will stand on a three-hectare piece of land on the west side of the Yaounde Municipal Lake. The three-compartment infrastructure will be made up of the main hotel, an annex and a conference centre sitting.
The building will be made of thirty stores while the annex will be seventeen stores. In addition, the building will have 218 rooms with a setup based on international standards.

There will also be a conference room, multiple restaurants, a sky bar with a terrace on the 24th floor, two pools – one indoors and another outdoor – and a big fitness centre.

On the upper floors of the tower, there will be 93 apartments with a total of 132 rooms. This will take the capacity of the hotel from an initial 300 rooms previewed to the total number of 350 bedrooms at the finish of the project.

The annex building will be built in a yacht-like shape, hosting 13,350 meters square of office spaces of Grade A standards, which will attract multinationals. The conference centre will be constructed in the eye-catching form of architecture and will function like a real landmark in the city of Yaounde.
The centre will be able to host over 1,000 people, a triangular auditorium, several conference rooms and a ballroom. For traffic to be made fluid, a four hundred-capacity parking lot will also be constructed.

Going by the report, the construction project is privately funded and is being carried out by the Belgian company, International Infrastructure Development Group. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months.
