Grenada: Imprisoned Anglophone refugee under torture and threat of repatriation to Cameroon

By David Atangana

An Anglophone refugee fleeing the five-year-long armed separatist conflict in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon has reportedly been detained in Grenada, an island in the Caribbeans, MMI has learnt.

The refugee whose name MMI could not readily get is allegedly detained under very inhumane conditions.

According to reports he is undergoing torture not only from authorities but other detainees.

“… a southern Cameroonian is being molested in a detention center in Grenada” a source revealed to MMI.

An under cover footage obtained by MMI show him being tossed like a log of wood.

“The police seized his phone and deleted most of the videos taken by other inmates” the source went on adding that “they have been trying to deport him and his friends back to Cameroon”.

His safety and protection hangs on a scale as Grenadan authorities are reportedly planning to repatriate him back to the country he fled from.

The refugee in question is alleged to have acquired all the required documents necessary to guarantee his safety as a refugee.

“He has met with all their immigration requirements, even bought a flight to leave the country, they denied him from traveling out, but want to forcefully put him in their own plan that will eventually take him to Cameroon”, he continued.

Many Cameroonians fleeing the conflict in Anglophone Cameroon are reportedly trapped in Grenada, sources allege.
