After taking over from Alpha Condé, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has reassured the Guinean people and the international community that neither he nor any of his cabinet members will stand in for any future elections in the country.

He spoke to French news outlet RFI, where he affirmed that his transition Government is determined to return to civilian rule in the nearest future. Colonel Mamady Doumbouya also said in no way is he going to let any of his cabinet members jeopardize this promise he made when he took over from Alpha Condé.

“I think I had made it clear, and I reiterate. neither I nor any member of this transition will be a candidate for anything. We will achieve the transition together with all Guineans,” he declared on RFI.

Colonel Mamady Doumbouya said the process will be a gradual process from the bottom to the top. “We will start from the base to the top through the municipal elections, the legislative elections, then the presidential election…,” he assured.

The incumbent president earmarked that the role of the military is to bring order to the country and that he plans to return to the barracks together with his group after the successful transition of power.
