Unidentified gunmen brutally shot dead a businessman in Bamenda, North West Region, on Thursday, June 27.
The man whose name MMI got simply as Charles was gunned down at his business premises at City Chemist Roundabout.
Popularly known as ‘buy or no buy,’ he owned a drinking spot where he was killed.
The attackers, MMI learnt, advanced no reasons for committing the barbaric act.
“They came on motorbikes and fired shots at the man who died on the spot,” an eyewitness who opted for anonymity told MMI adding, “They took off immediately after killing him.”
Attempts by onlookers and family members to rescue him proved futile as he gave up the ghost on the spot.
His corpse have been deposited in the morgue pending burial arrangements.
While authorities have made no statement about the incident, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is seen by many as ‘targeted’.
Killings have multiplied in the restive North West region in recent days.
The killing of Charles occurred 24 hours after a civilian vehicle was bombed in Oshum, killing three people. The bomb attack was claimed by Ayaba Cho Lucas, who commands Ambazonia Defense Forces (ADF), an armed separatist militia notorious for targeting civilians in the region.
