A woman whose name MMI got as Bernice was shot dead and another person injured in a gun attack in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon.

She was gunned down around Mbogam neighborhood along the Mbengwi Road in the late hours of Sunday, April 28, while returning from an event.

Sources say Bernice was attacked by unidentified gunmen after she was dropped by a car and was heading towards her house.

“She was shot in front of me,” an eyewitness recounted.

“We had just left an occasion where she was the one that prepared food. We left the event to drop her off since it was late in the night,” added the eyewitness.

“We were onboard three cars. I was in the second vehicle. As we got to the entrance where we had to drop her off, I don’t know what happened. All I heard were gunshots. Before I could look outside, I saw Auntie Bernice falling in her own pool of blood.”

She died on the spot, according to confirmed reports.

Shots were also fired at the third vehicle, injuring one of its occupants.

“They also shot at the third vehicle and Brenda who was in it received gunshot wounds. We manage to rush her to the hospital,” the eyewitness said.

Bernice, who was a seamstress at the Bamenda Main Market, is the latest victim in the ongoing armed conflict that has plagued the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon for nearly seven years.

The incident comes at a time when Bamenda, which has been relatively calm for months, witnessed another violent attack in the Nkwen neighborhood on Monday, April 29, where a locally made bomb exploded, causing panic among residents.
