Gunshots mar activities at Mobile Nkwen in Bamenda

At about 6:30pm Thursday, July 22, 2021, people could be seen rushing home and shop owners trying to close their shops as bullets rained at Mobile Nkwen in Bamenda 3 subdivision. No one understood what was happening but everyone was running for his or her life.

Amba boys had come for a business man who hails from the West region by name Charly. The business man and wife were not at the shop located at the entrance to Ghana Street from Mobile Nkwen.

Unable to get the man, Amba boys picked up his 15-year-old son who was in the shop. The boys started shooting in the air as the young man attempted to resist.

As people panicked and others went on the ground, one of the boys in a soft tune said, “Make man no fear. We come na for one person”.

Eye witnesses only realized that the shooting was to clear their way after they had taken the son of the business man away.

The mother of the kidnapped lad arrived after the incident, only to close the shop. The destination of her son is not known.

Neighbors are testifying that, the boys had informed Mr Charly of their coming. It is alleged Charly contributed to the arrest of one Amba fighter by belonging to a “social media anti-amba platform MKPD”.

We are yet to confirm these allegations.

Government troops arrived the scene 30 minutes after. All they were asking the crowd was how many amba boys carried out the act.

The business man by name Charly has not been seen.
